Mcllroy wants Ronaldo respect Saturday, July 12, 2008 Sammy McIlroy has pleaded with Cristiano Ronaldo to put Manchester United fans out of their misery by saying he is staying or going.
The Portugal international scored 42 goals as United won the Premier League title and Champions League last season but now he tops Real Madrid's most wanted list and the Spanish giants are confident he will be at the Bernabeu next season.
Ronaldo's United deal runs to 2012 and the club have repeatedly said he is not for sale but Madrid will keep up the chase for as long as the player remains silent on the issue. Former Old Trafford favourite McIlroy, on the other hand, is sick talking about it and he wants the 23-year-old to put it to bed.
"Ronaldo needs to make a decision one way or the other," said the former Northern Ireland manager. "He needs to come out with a 'yes I'm staying' or 'sorry, I'm off'.
"Some would say he is being disrespectful to the club and everyone is entitled to their opinion but I just want it sorted out so we can move on and Sir Alex (Ferguson) can bring in the players to replace him if he goes.
"Fergie stood by him after his bust-up with Wayne Rooney at the World Cup and I feel he owes United a lot - the club has looked after him and helped make him the player he is. But this story has been going on too long and we want it resolved now."
